Hillsong -- Here in My Life

One of my favorite songs..
We will always need Jesus in our lives, every second of it...
Making decisions, facing our 'giants', making friends and any other things..
So, here it is..

Here in My Life (Hillsong)

I have never walked on water
Felt the waves beneath my feet but
At your Word Lord, I’ll receive Your
Faith to walk on oceans deep

And I remember how You found me:
In that very same place
All my failing surely would've drowned me
But You made a way

You are my freedom
Jesus you’re the reason
I’m kneeling again at Your throne
Where would I be without You
Here in my life, here in my life?

You have said that all the heavens
Sing for joy at one who finds
The way to freedom, truth of Jesus
Bought from death into His life

And I remember how You saw me:
Through the eyes of Your grace
And though the cost was Your beloved for me
Still you made a way!

Oooh no, too bad the video could not be inserted...

Final Exam Weeks!!

Woooow... Woooooow.... Wooooow....... Really can't believe that the semester is almost finished already!! Time really flies, don't you think so?? And here I am, two weeks before final exam.. The thing about my university is, I seldom has written examination where I have to memorize things and write down my answers.. Here, when it comes to final exam means papers, projects and presentations! Therefore, the busy times are the weeks before the exam itself... Good, but tiring... But well, back again, we have to give thanks in any circumstances!!! THANK YOU GOD!! hehehehe...

Now I'm still working on two papers, marketing proposal about our Pastry and Bakery Business called Tubitup (for marketing class) and the complete business proposal about the same business (for THM Entrepreneurship class). Thank God, we decided to bring the same project for two classes. So, it made our work easier in a way or another. Except that we're writing it in English for the marketing class and in Indonesian for the E-THM class.

This is the Tubitup logo that our team member, Veni, created. However, we have to redesign this because it is way too feminine, unsophisticated looking and similar to YOUTUBE logo.

Next is promotion materials for Kampung Arab Surabaya (Kampung Ampel) which are website and brochure. This one is for our Tourism Philosophy and Policy class. We're almost done with the website, but zero percent work on the brochure.

What's more?? There's still sooo much more!! One is a presentation about restaurant management. We interviewed the owner of Dewa-Ndaru Culture Resto, Mr. Hariadi and the restaurant manager. Wonderful interview session, satisfying answers and I am sure this will bring us good result!!

Others things that still bug me are Statistic practical exam on SPSS program (regression, correlation, ANOVA, etc.) --> HATE THIS TO THE FULLEST!! Another practical exam on Galileo program for my ticketing class...

Conclusion is: TOO MANY THINGS TO DO IN SUCH SHORT TIME!!

God please help me to get through this exam well.....
Good luck for my fellow THM students!

Dream High

I've just finished watching this Korean drama recently, entitled Dream High. Maybe some of you, fellow Asian drama addicts, have watched this drama too since it is very popular and totally worth watching! To tell you the truth, I am a real Asian drama addict, even since I was in primary school. My genre is romance, comedy and somewhere around there, i don't watch something with killing, blood, wars and ghosts involved because these things really scare me! I will surely end up sleeping or closing my eyes until the film is over... I've watched almost every Korean and Taiwanese or Chinese drama from 'Kabut Cinta', 'At The Dolphin Bay', 'Winter Sonata', 'Coffee Prince' until the new ones like 'Secret Garden' and some other approximately 100 titles. Hahahahahaha.. I don't know, watching drama has became part of my daily routine already. Bad routine or good routine?? Well, i can't tell...

Why do I like watching drama so much? Hmph..... I'm thinking now. Probably it's because they bring me inspiration, hope, insight about other people's life out there (even though it may not be real). I learn through the films, learn about love, family, career, and any other aspects in life. The same thing happened when I watched Dream High. The film told us the story about a group of teenagers (6 of them, all with wonderful talents in performing arts and apparently in real world, almost all of them are parts of singing groups in South Korea, no wonder they're all sooooo good!) studying in an art school and working incredibly hard in reaching their dreams, that is to become singers, actors and actresses.

In the film, they worked extra hard in improving their skills, take chances and risks. Some of them even got to the extent of using unethical methods in reaching it. Well, we must not learn to use these unethical methods too, but at least it showed me that they really wanted this, to perform! Problems came, the one that touched me the most was when Sam Dong found out that he has a problem with his hearing and it the doctor told him that it will keep on getting worse. At first, he intended to give up his dream as a singer but because the dream is just too amazing to be given up, he decided to get back on track, working wonderfully harder day by day and at the end of the film he even got to perform in the Grammy Awards. Soooo sad, but so inspiring!

All of these kids came from different family background, one was raised without the love from the parents, one from a remote village, one from economically troubled family and many others. These factors did not hinder them, they support each other and keep on developing their extraordinary talents.

I wonder, can I be like them? Can I work as hard as they did? Even though I always see myself as a hard worker and a dreamer but these characters really surprised me. My dream is to be a famous pastry chef and open my own patisserie! Now, I'm studying tourism and hotel management then I'm planning to continue my study in pastry arts. A long way to go, indeed! My parents may not support me 100%, but I will keep on practicing, learning new skills while finishing my bachelor's degree.

Sometimes, I may feel down because of the bad results of my pastries, my not-so-good-looking plating, and 'well it's alright' comment from my family or friends. I know, ideally, it should motivate me to practice more, sometimes it really is the case, but sometimes not. A chef from the hotel I had my internship in told me, "I wanted to be a pastry chef, but I don't have the discipline, so here I am now a cuisine chef." Sooooo, it means, as long as I'm discipline enough, work hard enough, I will be able to be a great pastry chef, right??? Hmph...... I guess this is the only thing that I can do now. Like what I stated in my profile, I am not a billionaire, I am not a genius, but I have the determination and the discipline to reach my dream! Yes, I will!! I will not give up, I will work hard and keep on praying to Him to open up ways for me.

Please pray for me too, guys!
I really hope that all of you have your own dreams that you can work hard for.
Dreaming is free and it gives you hope, determination and makes you do anything that you may thought incapable of doing!

大家加油!

God bless you!!!!

Late Introduction

Hi there, people!! Sorry for late introduction.. Hehehehe..

At first, I made this blog for education purposes, for my marketing class! I have to write what I've learned during the class and post it in the blog. So, here it is, Yes It's Jez.

I've been wanting to blog for so long, but I just didn't get the push! I wanted to share about my fashion, pastry journey, the grace of my God and sooo many other things. But, like what I said, there are just too many things that I wanted to share and I ended up not creating the blog at all.. Hahahahaha.. Irony... Finally, here it is, I have to create a blog that my lecturer required us to make.. However, after browsing through several blogs of my friends', the temptation, the desire, came again! Soooooo, I thought, why can't I just write anything here??

Well, I'm looking forward to write and share a tiny part of my life with you here. I hope you enjoy reading and browsing through Yes It's Jez...

Good bless you all!!!

Interview Questions (Oishii Donuts)

This week, we are going to interview the owner of Oishii donut, our benchmarked business, to find out about their secret to success. Here are the questions that we’re going to ask:
1. How do you determine your product price? Are you setting the price by comparing the price with your competitors or based on the raw materials only?
2. When you first started the business, do you think networking is more important than capital? Why do you think so? How much was your initial capital and when is the payback period?
3. Why is the name ‘oishii’ has bigger size in the logo than the donut illustration? What message do you want to deliver to your customer through your logo?
4. What are the service quality standards that you apply in Oishii donut to satisfy your customers?
5. What are the product differentiations or specialties of Oishii compared to other donut merchants? (the promises that Oishii makes to its customers)
6. With the easily found raw material, don’t you feel threatened that competitors may get in easily?
7. What is the marketing strategy that you have been using from the start until now that is proven to be effective?
8. How do you first introduce Oishii to the market?
9. What are your secrets in retaining your customer, making them loyal to Oishii?
10. What is the production standards applied in Oishii? How do you maintain and improve them?
11. Aside from product innovation (on the raw material used), what are other innovations that Oishii adapts? (Packaging, marketing strategy, etc.?)
12. How was the market reaction when you first introduced donut with cassava as the main ingredient? Then, why did you finally decide on getting into snack boxes business?
13. In your opinion, how big is the effect of marketing/ advertising budget to the business? How long will the effects last?

Integrated Marcom

The most important thing that I learned in our marketing class today is to maximize the use of communication to improve business performance. There are actually many benefits of marketing communication, but the major ones are informing (e.g. establishing product image and differentiating it with competitors' products), persuading (e.g. stimulate interest and encourage product trial) and reminding (e.g. developing repeat purchase behavior) the market about the business and the products/ services offered.

There are many different ways that a company may choose in order to communicate its business efficiently to its targeted market such as advertising (above the line or below the line), public relation (for larger companies with its own PR division), sales promotion, personal selling and direct marketing (e-mail or telemarketing).

Our lecturer, Mr. Sandy, even gave us a little tip on how to become a good personal seller. It is by not selling your products to the customer but more on offering solutions for them and be a good consultant whom these people can talk to. By establishing friendship with our customers, trust can be built and long term relationship (along with its benefits) may be earned.

While people argue which communication methods are the best for businesses, I prefer to say that there is no right or wrong or even best method of marketing communication but we have to use the most suitable communication method to use for our own different business types and target market. We even need to suit the communication method with our budget, what we can afford.

To conclude, Marketing Communication is only used to tell people about the business, its information and profile and what the business does. It may help the business inform, persuade and remind people about the business' existence. However, networking is still the most important part of today's business. Without networks, who do you intend to communicate these messages to? So, to be successful in business we need to keep widening our network and improve our business communication with these people.
